Helen Vandegriff Williams was born in Ada, Oklahoma. Her youth would be spent in Santa Ana, California, where the family moved in 1936. Helen’s mother became a Christian there, and being a strict displinarian, immediately began to instill in Helen and her two sisters intense religious values. Helen became a Christian at age 12 and began teaching Bible classes at age 13. This embarrasses her now, but it reveals her extreme interest in the Bible at a very early age. That desire for Bible knowledge has grown stronger with time and Helen continues to teach Bible classes to this day.

Helen graduated from Santa Ana High School and was later employed at Arovista Elementary School, an extension campus for colleges and universities in the Orange County Area where
her 3 children were enrolled. She received a B.A. in education intending to become a teacher.
At this point, two women who owned a business called Venus de Milo Ladies Fitness Salon began worshipping in Tustin, California. Helen was intrigued with the physical and nutritional nature of the business and decided to change the direction of her education. She returned to school, continued her studies, and finally received an M.A. degree in nutrition from California State College at Irvine.
Helen purchased a franchise, moved to Washington in 1979, established her first Venus de Milo Salon in Yakima, and became a very successful businesswoman. She opened additonal salons
in Gresham, Oregon and Bellevue, Washington. While operating her business in Bellevue she attended the Kirkland congregation where Lowell Williams was preaching. This enabled her to
take Bible classes several nights each week.
Helen’s experience with the fitness salons led her to believe that lasting change in the physical realm was predicated on changing the psychological view of one’s world. At this point, she once again enrolled in college and received her Doctor of Philosophy in 1990. Her thesis was entitled, “Mind and Body, A Cohesive Unit.”
In 1986 Helen established Vandegriff Counseling in Monroe, Washington, through which she has had the pleasure of serving Christians and the public in personal and family counseling since that time. She is respected by all who know her as a lady who is very knowledgeable in the workings of the mind and human relationships, as well as possessing a deep knowledge of the Bible.
Helen and Lowell Williams were married in Monroe, Washington, on July 2, 1995, in a service performed by Larry Haverstock. Together, they continue to counsel and serve the Church and the community.
